Blood tests that may help

If your healthcare provider thinks that you might have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), he or she may order several tests to find out. These tests might include general blood tests to test for anemia or infection (such as H pylori). They could also include imaging tests, such as a colonoscopy or x-ray, to look for problems in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Unfortunately, these tests do not always give healthcare providers all the information they need to make a definite diagnosis.

PROMETHEUS® IBD sgi Diagnostic™ is a specialized test that can give healthcare providers information that may help them make a diagnosis. That’s because PROMETHEUS IBD sgi Diagnostic is the only IBD diagnostic test that measures the following 3 classes of markers, which may provide important information:

Antibodies in your blood (called serologic markers) that are linked to IBD

Genes that are linked to IBD, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis (called genetic markers)

Inflammatory markers in your blood that are linked to IBD, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis

With this information, your healthcare provider may be able to see more clearly if IBD is causing your symptoms.

PROMETHEUS IBD sgi Diagnostic may also give your healthcare provider other important information. For example, serologic markers may help your healthcare provider see if you are at risk for complications from IBD. This information may help your healthcare provider figure out the best treatment plan for you.
